In Dreams

Last night I dreamt that you and I
were dancing ‘neath a starlit sky.
The sil’vry sands reached out meet
the gentle waves that cooled our feet.
The moon rose from its watery bed,
through smoggy skies, an orb of red.
Its lonely climb, this special night,
with fire-red glow lit our delight.

The music we were dancing to
came from within, from me and you.
No Rock ‘n Roll, no Blues or Soul,
but Heaven’s tune to make us whole.
I dreamt that this was our last dance
and felt as if we were in trance.
I dreamt this night would never end
as I held you, my lifelong friend.

Then moon dissolved and stars went out,
in my despair I tried to shout.
No sound could I force from within,
I knew I’d lost, had to give in.
As I awoke, I tried to keep
that joy of love I’d found in sleep.
With eyes squeezed tight, I wished and prayed,
that on that beach I could have stayed.

But then I turned and saw you there,
right next to me, without compare.
I softly whispered, I love you.
You smiled and said, I love you too.
I knew right then that dreams of love,
though filled with music from above,
could never ever be compared
with earthly love that we still shared.
